Learn how to adequately use a weed grinder for multiple types of results, including super fine and chunky consistencies.
Only a few essential steps are required to grind the perfect results, determined by how you plan to smoke your dry herbs. Below is an insightful and easy-to-follow guide on how to use a grinder.
Step 1: Remove Stems From Your Herb
When you purchase your weed, it will come in nugs. These are relatively large pieces of cannabis, and you can’t smoke them until you’ve ground them up. Start by removing any stems.
Stems are woody and usually jut out from one end of the nug. Simply break them off when you’re preparing your dry herb.
Step 2: Place Small Pieces of Cannabis into the Grinder
Break the marijuana apart, and place the pieces inside the metal grinder. You can just use your fingers to separate the chunks into smaller pieces, then put it in the grinder. Don’t place any herb in the center, since that’s where the magnet turns.
If you’re using an electric grinder or grinder card, you can leave the nugs as is.
Step 3: Grind Your Herb
Some people prefer a finer grind. You can twist a metal grinder for about one minute to reach an optimal herb texture for a pipe or bowl. An electric grinder could save you some time and make the grinding process easier; run it for 15 seconds to achieve the finest grind.
No matter how you grind, don’t overdo it! Cannabis that’s too fine restricts airflow and makes it harder to get an even burn. If you over-grind your dry herb, grind more to a rougher texture, then mix the batches before you fill your pre-rolled cone.
Several weed grinders include portable card-shaped, metal herb grinders, and electric options. We’ll cover how each one works in the next section.
If you want to fill a blunt cone or hemp pre-rolled cone, you're looking for a fine consistency. When using a metal grinder, twist it only a little, not even a full 360, then look inside the chamber. Repeat until you reach your desired consistency, if it needs to be finer.
When using an electric grinder, only activate it for a few seconds before checking the herb texture. You can always start it up again.
Types of Herb Grinders
The steps for operating your herb grinder will change depending on which type you choose. Below are some of the top herb grinders you can get from King Palm.
Chamber Metal Grinders
Metal grinders are a classic way to produce quality ground herb. We have two-chamber, three-chamber, and four-chamber metal grinders for sale.
Our XL two-chamber grinder holds up to 3.5 grams of herb and will get the job done at an affordable price. When you place your dry herb in the two-piece metal grinder, it will collect in the same chamber as the teeth. Make sure that your herb doesn’t fall out when you open it.
Another option is the three-chamber metal grinders that allow the herb to fall through to an extra chamber so you can collect it more easily. You also don’t have to pick the herb from the grinder’s teeth.
The four-chamber metal grinders have an extra compartment at the bottom that collects kief. You can sprinkle it in a wrap for extra strength, or smoke it on its own once you’ve collected enough.
All of our herb grinders will help you achieve the ideal consistency of your herb. You can pick your favorite option depending on the size, style, and price range you’re looking for.
Electric Grinders
An electric grinder is extremely easy to process your dry herb and keep your texture consistent.
King Palm’s electric grinder is easy to operate. Simply unscrew the jar, insert your herb, screw the top back on, and push the power button five times. Push it again five times when you want to stop the electric grinder.
Depending on the consistency you’re looking for, you can turn the electric grinder on for three to 15 seconds. When you try it for the first time, we recommend starting with a lower time, like 3-5 seconds, and then checking your dry herb. Once familiar with the electric grinder, you’ll know exactly how long to let it run.
Card Metal Grinders
Sometimes you need a herb grinder but don’t have one on hand. That’s why carrying our inexpensive, effective card-shaped grinder is always a good idea.
The grinder card is the size and shape of a credit card, so it can easily fit in your wallet or purse. You’ll always know that it’s around when you need it!
To use your card herb grinder, simply rub your nug of herb over the holes. Think of it sort of like grating cheese. You’ll achieve a chunky grind, perfect for packing wraps and pre-rolled cones. If you need it to be finer, you can continue to chop your dry herb with the edge of the card.
Our herb grinder card can also scoop, slice, and manipulate your dry herb. It’s the perfect all-in-one tool in your smoking arsenal, even if you use another grinder at home.
How to Clean a Herb Grinder
Cannabis grinders can be sticky, so cleaning your herb grinder regularly is important. The teeth of a metal grinder can become less effective when they’re covered in residue, causing your herb to break down less efficiently.
You can clean your metal grinder whenever you notice a build-up on the teeth. Start by taking the herb grinder apart and removing any plant material. Don’t forget your kief in the bottom compartment if you have one!
You should then soak each piece of the herb grinder in a bath of isopropyl alcohol for at least 30 minutes, but up to an hour. Rinse with water and scrub with a brush if there’s any remaining residue. Let it air dry, reassemble it, and you’re ready to start grinding again!
Cleaning our electric grinder is even easier. The package includes a cleaning brush, so dust off the blades after each use. (You’ll get a little extra herb, too!) Every once in a while, use rubbing alcohol on the brim of the jar and on the blades to remove any buildup.
All our herb grinders are effective and easy to use. We want to help you pick the tool that’s right for you.
Love metal grinders? Our XL grinder can handle the most herb at once, and our three-chamber model is efficient and powerful. Customers who love to collect kief should choose our colorful Mars Grinder.
Our electric grinder is the perfect choice for grinding your herb efficiently without any manual effort. The convenience is a game changer for everyone, but it’s especially helpful for medical patients who might have trouble using a metal grinder.
If you have regular impromptu smoke sessions and don’t always remember to bring a metal grinder, our herb grinder card will never leave you hanging. You never know when you might need one most! We recommend rolling up with our upcoming new tobacco wraps and blunt cones (Available at a retailer near you this April-June 2024).
